I hate how “yeah well they have the right to free speech” is often a cover for “I don’t care about this issue and don’t want to do anything about it.”
That’s why people so often bring it up when the discussion has nothing at all to do with the government trying to regulate speech.
Yup, the government cannot and should not stop people from saying and believing awful things. So should we just leave it alone? Or should we find other ways to battle that hatred?
